Safety and trust

How Jiraan keeps sections separate, homes legitimate and conversations private.

Every room has permission

Before a room goes up, the lister tells us how they hold the home and confirms they have the permission that needs.

You rent the home

Your landlord’s written permission

You own it with a mortgage

Your mortgage lender’s permission

You own it outright

No landlord or lender, but check your lease if it’s leasehold

Questions people ask

Can brothers see sisters’ rooms?

No. You choose brother or sister when you join and can’t change it yourself. You only see rooms in your own section. This is enforced on our servers, not just hidden on the page.

Can a brother and a sister message each other?

No. Brothers only message brothers, and sisters only message sisters. If someone in your section makes you uncomfortable, you can report or block them from the conversation.

Why do you ask about landlord or mortgage permission?

Letting a room without permission can break a tenancy or a mortgage, and the person moving in can lose their home. Every lister confirms they have the right permission before their room goes live.

Do you check permission letters?

Not yet. Listers confirm they have permission, and many hold a letter you can ask to see. Always ask to see it before you sign anything or pay a deposit.

What should I never do?

Never pay a deposit or rent before you’ve viewed the room in person, and never share bank details in the chat. Landlords must protect your deposit in a government-approved scheme.

Something feels wrong?

Every room, room-wanted profile and conversation has a Report button, and you can block anyone from a conversation. We look at every report within 2 days and take down anything that breaks our terms of use. You can also email us at hello@jiraan.uk. If anyone is in danger, call 999 first.
